IT Guide For Google Chromecast Setup
As part of the framework, surgeries were given the opportunity to install screens to display call statistics. The surgery you provide support for has opted to have a screen installed.
To facilitate this, we will install network ports and a screen at the site and use a Google Chromecast so they can cast a page from Google Chrome.
As the Chromecast and the computer casting the page need to be on the same network, we will need them to be allowed access to your network to function. We can perform all patching and physical changes on-site.
If both the computer and Google Chromecast can be placed on the same network, then no further work is required. However, if there are network traffic controls in place, then we request that the network changes below be implemented to allow functionality.
Ports to Open
Inbound Traffic
- TCP: 8008-8009
- UDP: 1-65535
Outbound Traffic
- UDP: 1-65535
Configuration Details (depending on network configuration)
Note: The term sender denotes the computer and receiver of the Chromecast device.
Same Network Segment | Ensure both sender and receiver are on the same subnet and can reach a DHCP server. |
Multiple Network Segments | Proper routing between segments and no packet filtering between sender and receiver on specified ports. |
VLAN Configuration | Option to deploy an IoT VLAN for isolated receiver networks. |
Stable IP Addresses | Recommended to use DHCP reserved addresses or hard-coded IPs for receivers. |
